Nature @ Heart was founded by Lizelle van der Merwe in February 2016 with the goal of offering good quality environmental education programmes to local communities, schools, private individuals and businesses. Our courses strive to encourage participants to explore, care for and protect our natural resources, thereby assisting local nature reserves to teach the public about conservation related issues and the biodiversity of our reserves.

Nature @ Heart provides a safe place in nature for young and old to learn and experience our natural environmental through fun games, interaction and other outdoor activities.

  • Environmental educational programmes (day or night)
  • Holiday programmes for kids
  • Environmental topic related talks
  • Teambuilding
  • Guided walks within our local reserves

  • Seniors outings
  • Overnight camps
  • Monthly full moon walks
  • Student and volunteer support opportunities.

All our programmes can be tailored to the specific needs of groups and are ideal for scouts, school groups, home schooled children, youth groups, teambuilding activities and family outings.

Lizelle has a passion for nature and promoting environmental awareness. She believes that a better understanding of conservation related issues and a greater awareness of the bio diversity of our reserves will not only assist with conservation, but also enable visitors to have a richer and more enjoyable experience.

Lizelle enjoys working with people and also working outdoors. Her love for working with people started when she worked as an ambulance assistant and taught first aid. She later pursued her love for nature by completing a Diploma in Nature Conservation and now enjoys the best of both worlds – working with people in the outdoors.

In addition to her qualification in Nature Conservation, she also holds certificates in Health and Safety as well as Basic Fire-fighting, all of which stand her in good stead to provide a safe environment for teaching both adults and children outdoors.

Lizelle’s engaging and outgoing nature, her genuine love for her vocation and years of experience in facilitating short courses, makes for a highly interactive and enjoyable learning experience.
